Wednesday this week was DT day in Year 5. The children designed and made their own moving toys using cams mechanisms.
We began by learning how different types of cams work.
Following that, the children designed their own toys. They then used some woodwork skills by measuring and cutting the wood for the frames and the axles themselves, using handsaws. (All fingers remained intact by the end of the day!) After that, they assembled the parts using hot glue guns before, finally, adding the decorative features that they had designed.
All in all – it was a very successful day and the children are rightly very proud of their handiwork! Well done 5F!
