As part of our History unit of work, this half-term we have been learning about World War II. Year 6 have began learning about the Battle of Britain and The Blitz; as part of the Design and Technology unit we built Anderson Shelters.
Pupils worked in pairs to produce an Anderson Shelter using their wood working skills to produce a cuboid-structure, which was made out of balsa wood, to form the base of their shelters.
In these series of lessons, every pupil developed their wood working skills using a junior hacksaw and a hot glue gun. The pupils understand the importance of listening carefully to instructions to remain safe at all times.
Year 6 have worked really hard to produce some fantastic Anderson Shelters, we look forward to share these with parents at the VE Day celebrations.
