Design Technology

  • Our design technology curriculum harnesses our children’s creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems across a range of contexts.

Through designing and creating a product, children consider the needs, wants and values of an intended audience; develop creative technical and practical skills to create a product; apply a range of knowledge, understanding and skills from a range of other curriculum areas, such as mathematics, science, computing and art; learn and develop useful life-skills such as cooking and sewing; critique, evaluate and test their own ideas.

Design technology is taught within a range of inspiring and fun projects such as creating moving vehicles; designing their own foods, such as salads and scones; and making a night-light for a younger child. Projects are often collaborative, giving the children opportunities to develop listening skills, understand compromise and practise teamwork
