Fraction Fun in Mrs Taylor's Maths Group

February 03, 2020

Mrs Taylor’s Maths group have been learning about fractions.

We started by recapping our knowledge of fractions, at the Fraction Feast! Each table had a selection of different foods that needed to be shared equally between everyone on the table. The children needed to think about halves, quarters, thirds and fractions of amounts. They were able to use their previous learning to help them.

We have also been looking at equivalent fractions, which are two or more fractions that are worth the same amount. We need to use our times table knowledge to be able to create fractions that are equivalent and find pairs of fractions that are equivalent. After practicing our fluency skills, we then went on to solve problems and puzzles using our understanding of equivalent fractions.

We are ready to continue learning about fractions over the next few weeks.
